Like diving into a bowl of sun-ripened berries, this cup bursts with juicy blackberries before melting into sweet berry jam and a wine-like complexity.

In the lush hills surrounding the Butegana Washing Station, smallholder farmers carefully tend to their Red Bourbon coffee trees in truly exceptional growing conditions. The combination of fertile soil and high elevations allows the cherries to ripen slowly, developing remarkable sweetness and complexity. The natural process, enhanced with carefully selected yeast inoculation, intensifies the coffee's fruit-forward character while bringing extra clarity and depth to every cup.

Butegana is the country’s oldest washing station, established in the early 1950s. It sits strategically on the slopes of Shikankoni and Nkuba Hill. At the time, King Mwambutsa had the station built to make the most of the abundance of coffee plants in the region.

About the processing:
Selected cherries are fermented with a carefully selected yeast for about 12 hours in large open tanks. This yeast inoculation allows for more control over the fermentation process.

The chosen yeast helps enhance a fresh, fruity character in the coffee. It also supports a more consistent fermentation, even at higher altitudes where colder temperatures can slow things down and reduce intensity.

Keep your coffee fresh

Store your coffee airtight in a clip-sealed bag or metal tin to protect it from air and light. Let your coffee rest for 2 weeks after roasting to degas. Then it reaches its brewing flavor peak up till 8 weeks. If you won’t use it within two months, you can portion and freeze your coffee to maintain freshness.
